About CBLL.NET

CAJ

My name is Corey Johnson and I am a 20-year old guy from central Pennsylvania, USA. I grew up near the borough of Selinsgrove, which is about 80 km north of the state capital of Harrisburg. Selinsgrove is in a rural, peaceful area which has a kind of isolation to it from the rest of the world. The main industry is agriculture (especially the farming of chickens and swine) and the people are mostly Republican in voting, but there is a university there plus a wide array of shopping outlets to buy all kinds of knick-knacks. There are tons of places for recreation, and the Susquehanna is right next door to go fishing or ride your boat. The schools are good and especially good if you like American football (I'm not a big fan myself...). There is a 400-megawatt coal-fired power station, which is quite old and dirty. But, we do have a very stable electricity supply!

I am currently attending Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA for the study of environmental engineering. I would like to work on waste-to-energy (WTE) plants, materials recovery facilities, and other such operations for the reduction, reuse, recycling, and treatment of wastes. Garbage is a fascinating subject, whether you agree or not. The best thing we can do with garbage, though, is to not make it in the first place.

I enjoy trance, dance, ambient, and new-age music. It is very difficult to find people who have even heard of these genres of music where I live, let alone finding actual copies of it in record stores. But thanks to the internet, I can have a 24/7, 128 kbps stream from the Radioseven internet broadcasting station in Sweden! It is also nice to throw some of the more "mainstream" rock and pop in there as well.

I get all of my news from the internet. I never really was up for hours of sitting and vegetating in front of the TV. The beautiful thing about the internet is that it is a "pull" technology where you see only what you request and not like a TV which is "push" technology, and that you must view what is presented.

For hobbies, I enjoy web design, electronics, and building various useful things. Audio amplifiers and related equipment are a favorite, why for listening to that wild trance music, one needs a good amp! Dumpster diving is a good thing to do every once in a while as well. It is amazing what people will just throw away. It is very satisfying to get to re-use and recycle these things, and also get it for free!

The United States of America is a very nice place to live, but my observation has been is that it mostly is an "Oil-Fired Oblivion" with much of the population living in an unsustainable fantasy land. This "non-negotiable way of life" (to quote vice president Cheney himself) is spear-headed by big business and supported by the government. Threats to the status-quo are shot down and dismissed (sometimes literally). Close-Mindedness and ignorance (which run rampant) is the bane of progress. I am not so keen on the "American Way", which often means big, loud, excessive, wasteful, and obnoxious. My friend once told me that an electric lawn mower is "Not the American Way, man!"

But, we do have many pockets of intelligence and great potential for change towards sustainability, openness, and renewed prosperity.

I would like to travel to the Nordic countries, especially Norway, which has got to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.
