Fossil Fuels, specifically petroleum, impact our lives more than any other natural resource!
Without them, most human life would cease to exist.

So that means we have to find more of it? No, that means that we have to find use sustainable replacements for it, and learn the real value of energy.

The Tree of Life, version Two

As the world's population grows and becomes more industrialized, the demand for oil will grow faster than ever. The problem is that the reserves of oil in the Earth are getting smaller. We will start pumping lower-quality oil, which takes more energy to refine, releases more carbon dioxide per unit of energy, and therefore costs more. We will search for oil in deeper and deeper water, risking more and more, and what oil we do extract will cost more. Eventually, what we can actually extract will be less than what we want to use. That's when the real chaos begins!
